Barra Hotels

Barra De Navidad Hotels

Barra offers a great change of pace from its much more busy neighbor Puerto Vallarta. Refreshingly unpopulated and touristy this small beach town has captured the imaginations of many who visit.

We wrote an article about surfing in Barra de Navidad last time, but we realized that we never wrote about where to stay as a surfer in Barra. Your average surfer is not looking for luxury resorts, he/she is not looking for a place with all the best amenities and a room with high end finishes. He doesn't care about a pool or expensive restaurant, what a surfer wants is a cheap hotel close to the beach that doesn't care if shirt and shoes are optional.

Why not try out Bungalows Marvida or Hotel Barra de Navidad then. Both of these hotels offer rooms at a very reasonable rate, around $40-$50 a night, and are located within spitting distance of the beaches. Don't expect luxury when you go to these places, but what you will get is a personalized service, quality rooms, friendly staff, and all of that just a short walk from the beach.

Reviews on both of these hotels are generally good. For example here is one I found on Tripadvisor:

We stayed in Hotel Barra de Navidad and loved it. It was reasonable ($), clean (so clean - i did not see one bug the entire time), the staff were helpful (helped us with travel questions and were quick at checkout), i felt safe and i felt my stuff was safe, i could step out onto my private baclony and see the ocean (beachfront room), they had a little pool with deckside chairs, the restaurant (Banannas) was a good place to stumble down to for breakfast. It was all that we needed.

Saying that i would also say the hotel was very 'americanized' and catered to all the needs of the people who wanted to be in Mexico while still getting things 'just like back home' (i want scrambled eggs with ketchup), so if that is what you are looking for you can find it here. we did not need that, but there you go....

I heard two things about the hotel that made me shake my head. One review on this site said "Do not stay on the 3rd floor as the palm trees block your view." That is silly - the palm trees are the view (and yes you can still see the sea through them) and another lovely fellow traveller COMPLAINED that the waves kept her up all night. Really the ocean is rough right near the hotel and yes the sound of the ocean does permiate the hotel - to us this was a good thing. That is why we stayed at a hotel on the ocean. To each his/her own.

Hotel Barra de Navidad - I would stay there again - no worries.
So I think that review says it all. If you are planning to surf in Barra de Navidad, then try out this Barra hotel for your next vacation!
