Surfing in Barra De Navidad

Surfing In Barra

Barra de Navidad has some really great surfing, so don't forget to bring your surf board! The surf is beach breaks and they just roll on in on a good day. Low tide is the best time to catch a few waves, due to the way the bay is shaped you can catch a really good right wave, and a short left if you are fortunate. The waves are soft and steady, perfect for longboard surfing.

It's a short paddle out from the beach, and all sand underneath, so surfing in Barra is perfect for a beginner! If you are more advanced, then you would probably like to go to some of the other areas nearby that have incredible surfing like Pascuales about 2 hours south where the famous waves there are heavy and huge. Every year they host an annual surfing competition which attracts some of the top pros from the surf circuits!

Barra Surf

Usually the beaches of Barra are very quiet, and the waves are very calm. It has to be a big swell day in the other regions to get a decent surf up at Barra. But when it does, you can pretty easily catch a 30 second ride or more. But don't worry if the surf isn't up, Barra de Navidad is a great place to hang out. The beach town has plenty of shopping and beach side restaurants to pass the time. If the surfs not up, then you just relax on one of the many hammocks and wait for your set to come in.
